Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science is your new resting place. As a Mortuary Science student you will prepare for employment as a funeral director and embalmer through a variety of courses. While some employers may prefer an associate degree in mortuary science, this is an entry-level position that does not usually require post-secondary education. Our programs are designed for those whose passion for caregiving goes beyond the grave; online and campus options available. Pursue a minor to supplement your course of study in fields such as accounting, business A monthly stipend will be paid for the duration of the internship. Prerequisite requirements There are no prerequisites for entry to this qualification or units within this qualification with prerequisites. The aim is simple; to educate, train and introduce a new wave of mortuary and funeral professionals ensuring industry recognised qualifications. This Diploma consists of 3 short online courses : Adv Cert of Mortuary Science Adv Cert of Human Anatomy Adv Cert of Funeral Studies This course takes the student through bodies, stages of decomposition, the morgue, equipment, autopsies, embalming and risks. Qualifications There are no formal academic requirements although some employers require candidates to possess GCSEs/S grades. There are certificate and associate degree programs that train people to become morgue technicians, autopsy assistants and mortuary science technicians, with courses that teach the professional, legal and scientific aspects of the profession.
